Cape Culinary Quest

Exclusive Interactive Cooking EventsSamp and Souffle on Route 62

In association with hotels and guests houses that promote and enhance the splendors of South Africa and "Proudly South Africa" campaign, this culinary tour winds its way from Cape Town, to Ceres, along the world's longest wine route on the Route 62, to Swellendam, through Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn and the pretty Karoo town of Prince Albert.

Route 62For our first stop we book into Cedrics Lodge in Cape Town close the city centre and its many restaurants for fine dinning. While in Cape Town our guests will enjoy traditional Cape fare and get to grips with cooking with fynbos at an expert chef-led demonstration and lesson. A visit to a chocolate factory to make your own sweet treats is included. To be enjoyed is a drive around the Peninsula's breathtaking coastlines, and the thin finger of land in the south westernmost corner of Africa that juts dramatically into the Atlantic Ocean at Cape Point.

From Cape Town the tour travels to Ceres, where we book into Kagga Kamma Game Reserve, well known not only for its fruit and apple orchards but also its rock formations, scenic beauty and striking San rock art. Here we can enjoy a the Bushman culture tour of the ancient San Living sites and rock paintings, followed by a game drive and dinner in an open air boma under African Skies. Depending on the time of the year there is may be an opportunity for guided stargazing through a tech 10-inch telescope.

Route 62Next stop is a country house known for its production of local cheese and preserves - Jan Harmsgat Country House. Set amongst pecan, almond and fruit orchards, this is the ideal setting for indulging in the wonderful local cuisine and wine from the area.

From here the group continues along Route 62, staying at Mimosa Lodge in the scenic Montague. Visit unpretentious wine estates in the area known for their robust wines, including wine and food pairing dinners. Travel to the top of the Langeberg Mountain by tractor, enjoying Muscadal from the area when you reach the summit.

While still on the wine route travel through mountain passes and some of the most un-spoilt parts of the Cape, traveling through Caliztdorp known for its port and make our way to Oudsthoorn, famed for its ostrich industry, booking into Queens Lodge. There are day trips from Oudtshoorn to probably the quaintest town in the Klein Karoo - Prince Albert which will include a drive through an incredible mountain pass - the Swartberg pass.


This trip can be done in 11 days and will include:

  • 3 nights accommodation in Cape Town, 2 nights accommodation in Ceres, 1 nights accommodation in Swellendam, 2 Nights accommodation in Montagu, 3 nights accommodation in Oudtshoorn
  • 5 dinners at our chosen lodges including wine
  • 1 drive around the Cape Peninsula
  • 2 interactive lunches, 1 interactive dinner, under the guidance of experienced chefs
  • 1 interactive chocolate making
  • Tractor ride
  • South African wine and beer chosen by Samp and Souffle and their suppliers at the interactive events
  • Wine tasting at wine estates

This trip can be done by self-drive or chauffeured transport which can be arranged. The tour can be done at any time of the year and tour guides and translators can also be arranged to suit the group.
